Glad to hear you want to improve your watercolour skills! Don't be too hard on yourself when you're learning to use them, they are quite difficult and require lots of practice.

My best advice is to work light to dark, apply thin transparent colour one layer at a time, and build these up to create your darker tones. Don't overwork it, watercolour works best when used sparingly. Also take note of where your lightest areas are to preserve the white of the paper, as you can't apply white with watercolour, your white is your paper. And definitely play around with the watercolours to see how they work, different brushes, papers etc, compare working on dry paper and working on wet paper, experiment! Hope that helps!
